March Artist In Residence Elyse Brandau

There are three things I am crazy about- 1.) Creating 2.) Comedy 3.) Carrots. Not really carrots, but I am fond of them. My first portrait was when I was 4 years old. It was a unicorn with six legs. My passion for people and animals has transformed into one of a kind portraits since then. After years of studying privately, I am now celebrating those who have influenced our lives with my personalized rendition. More importantly, I am grateful to be able to do this. Thanks for swinging by! –...

February Artist in Residence Stephanie Ng

Stephanie was born in Hawaii and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in New York, most recently through Red Bull Curates, Openhouse Gallery, and Indiewalls. Specializing in portraits, she uses contours in a unique manner to capture the essence of each subject, whether its sensuality, stature, or even its simplicity. Blurring the distinctions between mediums, she invites the viewer to ponder the manner in which each piece was created and how the process of creation in itself influences both the intrinsic and aesthetic values of the work.”...

And our favorite album of the year is…….

First and foremost, a happy new year to everyone.  Hope everyone stays safe this holiday season and we are super excited about all the things to come in Birchland in 2013. With all the amazing albums that came out this year, our choice is going to have to be Kaki King’s Glow.  The purely instrumental album was both uplifting and inspiring and we have to agree with Kaki when she says it’s some of her best work.   Congrats Kaki!  All the best in 2013....

October Artist Residency: Marni Wandner

Marni first remembers picking up a camera around age 13 – the result was a lot of black and white photos of cats and people’s feet.  She slowly continued to develop her love for the captured image and has learned a lot along the way. She thinks of photography as her way of collecting visual memories they way she sees them and she hopes to convey a certain sentiment through each finished piece.
